We take the environmental impact of our operations very seriously.
In the modern age, it's increasingly apparent that irresponsible manufacturing is having a negative impact on our eco-systems. Legislation is slowly driving change, but this is an area that we need to lead and not follow.
Environment
Step towards the future
The most effective process to protect our eco-systems is one of prevention. This transition requires disruptive change to existing materials, manufacturing processes, product functionality and supporting business models. This new Sustainable Product Paradigm will require engagement at all levels, but we are convinced that where there's a will, there's a way.
Legislation
It starts with the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) for responsible mineral sourcing, through RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and EN63000:2018 on the restriction of hazardous substances in manufacturing through to the new EU Waste Framework Directive on waste management, recycling and recovery.
Customer requirements
Forward-thinking customers may have additional compliance requirements in advance of the necessary legislation changes, such as the elimination of Single-Use Plastic packaging. Such non-SUP packaging requirements are essential steps to reduce pollution and move closer to full sustainability.
Corporate programs
For carbon neutrality measured across the product lifecycle, manufacturers need to start to assess the product carbon footprint (CFP) to ISO 14067:2018. Whilst not yet mandated, this allows organizations to more accurately see the main CFP impact to identify actions to reduce it.
